we hear a lot of nonsense from #chatGPT, but this ... wow:
"In space, #vacuum #tube #technology would not work as the vacuum would be lost in #space and the #electrons would not be able to flow freely."
@sebastian Where on earth has it conjured up this little nugget?
@EggKnees
i have no idea.
i must admit we provoked it with the slightly nonsensical (but not uninteresting!) question whether one could operate a good old vacuum tube in space, without its glass housing.
the picture of a vacuum slipping out of a tube, like a genie out of a bottle, and into space, will now not leave my mind again ...
@sebastian Right, that makes a bit more sense. It's polluted!
the vacuum or chatGPT?
@sebastian It raises an interesting question. If you pollute the data do I see the wrong answer when I ask a related question?
Yesterday, I told it that the formal international distress signal in Morse is not SOS but ...___... i.e. one character with no spaces. It confirmed that was correct but did it save it?
on some specific issues, it s definitely buried deep in ruts of wrong information, and it cant get out.
example "Lora".
but whether that s based on some sort of dymanic memory or just having read crap once and stored it, i dont know.
it s clear that it doesnt keep itself very up-to-date with newer things.
@sebastian I saw the result of a Lora question a while back. "Each Lora unit cannot communicate directly". I assume we are on the same wavelength.
yes, i asked that #Lora question to test some standard knowledge i d ask about in my course.
my colleagues at #university are getting nervous about chatGPT - as much of the #academic world, which says more about the academic world than it says about so-called "AI".
in this case, #chatGPT just fails miserably.
@sebastian I think we have a pretty good feel for what it's good for. Perhaps someone will compile a list of various subjects with a quality score. It should be able to do that itself but it will probably skew the results to hide its shame.
it will sure have its market in all trash markets from user support to sex chats.
the way i see it, for any serious use, it s just a giant noise ampllifier.
scary that humans are willing to reduce their intelligence in order to be able to believe in some artificial intelligence.
