Amadeus Maximilian<p>Just finished reading “Dawnshard” by Brandon Sanderson. I had actually started reading “Rhythm of War” but felt like I was missing something, so I’m glad I found out about this novella. 😅</p><p>In the beginning, it felt a bit heavy-handed with the references to disability, which again are great in principle, but felt kind of bolted on instead of well integrated. I’m glad that the actual plot quickly took centre stage and was engaging through the end! I enjoyed it.</p><p>7/10</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.design/tags/bookstodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>bookstodon</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.design/tags/miniBookReview" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>miniBookReview</span></a></p>
Amadeus Maximilian<p>I just finished reading “Oathbringer” by Brandon Sanderson.</p><p>This third book was the first where I felt the drag of such a long series. Things just felt too drawn out, slow. There seemed to have been a strong undertone of mental illness and addiction, which in itself is nothing bad, but exhausted me at times.</p><p>To be honest, I was planning on giving this book a lower rating, but as with “Edgedancer”, the final part managed to truly grip me again.</p><p>6/10</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.design/tags/miniBookReview" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>miniBookReview</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.design/tags/bookstodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>bookstodon</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.design/tags/bookReview" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>bookReview</span></a></p>
Amadeus Maximilian<p>So I just put down “Edgedancer” by Brandon Sanderson and to be honest, for most of the novella, I thought it mediocre. I don’t really like Lift as a character, although undeniably she’s very…pronounced. The last few pages made me think otherwise and I did enjoy reading the book in the end.</p><p>6/10, and I’m only slightly mad that I’m really craving pancakes now and don’t have any.</p><p>Excited to get back to the main series.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.design/tags/miniBookReview" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>miniBookReview</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.design/tags/bookstodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>bookstodon</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.design/tags/bookReview" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>bookReview</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.design/tags/StormlightArchive" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>StormlightArchive</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.design/tags/BrandonSanderson" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BrandonSanderson</span></a></p>
Amadeus Maximilian<p>Just turned the last page on “Words of Radiance” by Brandon Sanderson and while this book certainly held my attention, it couldn’t quite match the quality, engagement and magic of the first book. </p><p>While the world is more established and easier to follow, I’m having an increasingly hard time keeping track of the minor characters which only show up in interludes or quick mentions.</p><p>Still, I’m excited to read on. 7/10</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.design/tags/bookstodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>bookstodon</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.design/tags/miniBookReview" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>miniBookReview</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.design/tags/bookReview" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>bookReview</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.design/tags/BrandonSanderson" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BrandonSanderson</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.design/tags/StormlightArchive" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>StormlightArchive</span></a></p>
Amadeus Maximilian<p>Just finished reading “The Way of Kings” by Brandon Sanderson. At first, I was a bit thrown off by all the odd fantasy names and concepts, but once I got over that, the story absolutely pulled me in and made the book hard to put down.</p><p>Very impressive, I’m curios if the other books in the series can do this first instalment justice. Long series unfortunately have a tendency to drag.</p><p>9/10, can recommend.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.design/tags/bookstodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>bookstodon</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.design/tags/miniBookReview" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>miniBookReview</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.design/tags/bookReview" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>bookReview</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.design/tags/brandonSanderson" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>brandonSanderson</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.design/tags/StormlightArchive" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>StormlightArchive</span></a></p>
Amadeus Maximilian<p>Finished the first trilogy of 2024 last night: Naomi Novik’s Scholomance Trilogy. 🎉</p><p>I really enjoyed A Deadly Education, it pulled me out of a dark place. The Last Graduate felt a bit draggy in places, but was enjoyable as well and The Golden Enclaves was a nice ending to the trilogy, but no match for the first book. 👍</p><p>I really enjoyed the setting, magic system and protagonists. 😊 9/10 would recommend.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.design/tags/miniBookReview" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>miniBookReview</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.design/tags/bookstodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>bookstodon</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.design/tags/scholomance" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>scholomance</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.design/tags/NaomiNovik" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>NaomiNovik</span></a></p>
