@Tutanota

There's quite a major BUG going on with pasting images from the clipboard.

You write an email on the web interface, you paste an image from the clipboard, it appears as "image.png". You keep writing the email you past another image, it appears again a second image.png file in the email attachments list and on the email body as the actual image.

You then hit send, the email you send has none of those images, despite them being in the email body and on the attachment list.

I use Tuta for e-mail because they're outside U.S. jurisdiction.

Proton has started opening offices, setting up servers, registering businesses, trademarks, copyrights, and publishing terms of service and privacy policies in the United States. Yet today, they still claim to be solely a Swiss company — which is completely false.

Digital sovereignty is important to me.

If Tuta ever starts moving anything into the United States — whether opening offices, filing registrations, or whatever — I will stop using Tuta.

There must be no United States.

You're in Germany — stay in Germany, or expand somewhere in Europe or Asia, perhaps somewhere in South America or Africa, but not in the United States. If you really want something on the North American continent, Canada would be OK — but not the United States.

To my knowledge, Tuta is not thinking of doing what Proton has done, and they’re not expanding into the United States — and for that, I am grateful. I’m just thinking out loud and expressing my viewpoint, as well as my frustration, because I’ve previously seen good independent businesses and non-profits foolishly choose to come here — and this is what I’m trying to avoid.

With Germany poised to change its stance and approve Chat Control, digital privacy end looms in the EU

Companies that take privacy seriously, such as Signal and Tuta are issuing statements of positions regarding the topic.

TL:DR the differences between those two and all the rest are STARK.

Both Signal and Tuta state they will sue or leave EU.

And that is how you choose which businesses to support.

@adbenitez @desideria
Tuta has made a decision to not support IMAP and clearly stated it is not an option for them.

Tuta users that want to use Delta Chat can consider creating an account with a chatmail server or a email provider that supports IMAP.

Chatmail: delta.chat/en/chatmail
Email providers: providers.delta.chat

delta.chatDelta Chat: Chatmail for instant, interoperable and privacy-preserving messaging

Tuta Mail is not compatible with Delta Chat because Delta Chat uses IMAP and Tuta will not support IMAP.

Tuta: "Supporting IMAP is not an option for Tuta as it would undermine our built-in encryption."

@hosford42 @Em0nM4stodon Of course! Since you're already on Mastodon, the first thing I'd suggest is replacing all Big Tech social platforms with fediverse alternatives. That means Instagram with @pixelfed :pixelfed:, YouTube with @peertube 🚫:youtube:, Reddit with Lemmy 🗨️

📱 Next step - switch from WhatsApp or Messenger to @signalapp :signal: It's a secure, private messenger with end-to-end encryption (E2EE) - actually, WhatsApp is based on Signal's protocol. I also use @matrix 🌐 - it's a decentralized messenger with E2EE too. It works kind of like the fediverse - you choose a server where your messages and data are stored, and when you chat with someone, the servers federate.

:mail_smirk: You should also replace Gmail - it's pure Big Tech. I use Protom Mail :protonmail:, but I'm thinking about switching to @Tutanota. Their company seems more focused on email, while Proton is building a whole ecosystem. Both are encrypted and have great privacy policies 🔒

🌍 Now, about browsing the internet - instead of Chrome or other trackers, I recommend @brave 🦁 It has a built-in ad blocker and blocks tracking scripts. It also protects against fingerprinting and other privacy threats 🚫:eyes_happy:

🔎 And what about search engines? Time to dethrone Google. I use DuckDuckGo :duckduckgo:, @StartpageSearch, and Brave Search. Each has pros and cons, but all claim to protect your privacy.

🔐 You mentioned logging into many accounts with Google :google: - unfortunately, there's no universal way to switch to manual login. You have to check each service's settings one by one. Once you do, I recommend using a password manager that doesn't collect your metadata - @bitwarden 💪 It's open-source, had no major leaks, and you can even host it yourself.

💻 Want to go all in? Replace your operating system. It's a later step, but a powerful one. For desktop - Linux :linux: For smartphone - @GrapheneOS 📱 Both are privacy-focused and offer top-level security 🔐

🚀 Hope this helps you build your long-term path away from Big Tech. If you have questions, feel free to ask!

@micahflee #Tuta is probably Proton's main competitor but unlike Proton they don't seem to attract bad press for doing dumb things. When was the last time Tuta got public outcry for selling out their users? Meanwhile, every 6 months or so Proton does something that attracts condemnation from some of their users and the public at large.

Proton also have a very strange fan base that emotionally cannot stand anything said bad about Proton or their products, Tuta doesn't have this.
